Call to Worship

Psalm 57
For the choir director: “Do Not Destroy.” A Miktam of David. When he fled before Saul
into the cave. Be gracious to me, God, be gracious to me, for I take refuge in you. I will
seek refuge in the shadow of your wings until danger passes. I call to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me., He reaches down from heaven and saves me,
challenging the one who tramples me. Selah. God sends his faithful love and truth. I am surrounded by lions; I lie down among devouring lions—people whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords. God, be exalted above the heavens; let your glory be over the whole earth. They prepared a net for my steps; I was despondent. They dug a pit ahead of me, but they fell into it! Selah. My heart is confident, God, my heart is confident. I will sing; I will sing praises. Wake up, my soul! Wake up, harp and lyre! I will wake up the dawn. I will praise you, Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your faithful love is as high as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches the clouds. God, be exalted above the heavens; let your glory be over the whole earth.

Songs

“Oh Give Thanks (Psalm 107)”
We were wand'ring in the desert with our souls so starved and weak
We were hungry for a homeland we did not know how to seek
But we lifted up our voices to the only One who hears
And the God of mercy came and brought us near

We were locked out of the garden, and our backs bent down with pain
In the shadow of death's darkness, we were slaves to sin and blame
Then we cried out in our labor to the only One who hears
And the God of mercy wiped away our tears

Oh give thanks to the LORD for His love endures forever!
We were wandering and lost, and our Father brought us home
To a safe dwelling place, to a feast of joy and laughter
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!

We were fools in our rebellion, with our hunger strike of pride
We were sick and growing closer to the death we should have died
Then he heard of our condition, and he called us by our names
And the God of glory took away our shame
(Chorus)

We were far out on the ocean, making wealth and chasing dreams
But the waves of great destruction brought us tremb'ling to our knees
Then we cried like frightened sailors to the only One who hears
And the God of comfort took away our tears
(Chorus x2)

“Living Hope”
How great the chasm that lay between us
How high the mountain I could not climb
In desperation, I turned to heaven
And spoke Your name into the night

Then through the darkness, Your loving kindness
Tore through the shadows of my soul
The work is finished, the end is written
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Who could imagine so great a mercy
What heart could fathom such boundless grace?
The God of ages stepped down from glory
To wear my sin and bear my shame

The cross has spoken, I am forgiven
The King of kings calls me His own
Beautiful Savior, I’m yours forever
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Hallelujah, praise the One who set me free!
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me!
You have broken every chain
There’s salvation in Your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the Roaring Lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
(Repeat)

Oh Jesus, Yours is the victory!

Hallelujah, praise the One who set me free!
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me!
You have broken every chain
There’s salvation in Your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope
(Repeat)

Jesus Christ, my living hope
Oh God, you are my only hope

Confession & Pardon

O Lord, our guard and guide, have mercy on us, for we have wandered away from your
purposes.
We have not intended to stray, but too many times we have turned away
from truth toward falsehood.

O Lord, our guard and guide, have mercy on us, for we have taken for granted your
unfailing love and eternal benefits.
We desire to hate our sin and love you. Restore our wayward hearts, for
Jesus’s sake. Amen.

Personal confession of sin

Psalm 130:3-5
Lord, if you kept an account of iniquities, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is
forgiveness, so that you may be revered. I wait for the Lord; I wait and put my hope in
his word.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.
Thanks be to God.

Pastoral Prayer

Songs

“There is Hope”
There is hope in grace unceasing
You withhold Your wrath from me
Poured it out upon my Saviour
On the cross of Calvary

There is hope now for the hopeless
There is victory all can know
For the tomb lies bare and broken
And death's pow'r is overthrown

Jesus Christ my hope forever
Hope unlike the world can bring
Your steadfast love beyond all measure
There is hope in Christ my king

There is hope for sons and daughters
Who have wandered on their own
Hear the songs of joy from heaven
As the lost are welcomed home
(Chorus)

Hallelujah, Hope of heaven
Precious treasure of my life
All my joy is in Your presence
I am Yours and You are mine

Hallelujah, Hope of heaven
Precious treasure of my life
All my joy is in Your presence
I am Yours and You are mine
(Repeat)

I will wait until I see Him
Though the twilight turns to night
For my hope is not defeated
It will greet His dawning light
(Chorus)

“Never Shakes Never Will”
Where does my help come from
Where does my help come from
When the trouble rolls and the tempest blows
And my hope is gone

Where can my faith be strong
Where can my faith be strong
When all I hear is the voice of fear
And it rages on

I lift my eyes to the heavens
I lift my eyes to the hills
My Lord surrounds me like mountains
He never shakes never shakes never will

What if my world should fall
What if my world should fall
When I’m left betrayed all my riches fade
And I lose it all

Where does my help come from
Where does my help come from
When the trouble rolls and the tempest blows
And my hope is gone
(Chorus)

My God is with me
A fortress mighty
His river runs to make me glad
No pain is stronger
No night is longer
Nothing can break the rock on which I stand
(Repeat)
(Chorus)

Scripture Reading and Exposition

1 Samuel 24

Declaration of Belief

Christian, what do you believe?
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth.

Christian, what do you believe?
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

Christian, what do you believe?
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy universal Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Lord’s Supper

Songs

“Your Mercy Endures (Psalm 136)”
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good,
He is good, good
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good,
He is good, good, good

Your mercy endures forever and ever
Your mercy endures

To Him who alone does great wonders,
Does great wonders be praise
To Him who spread out the earth upon the waters
The earth upon the waters, we say:

Your mercy endures forever and ever
Your mercy endures — Oh
Your mercy endures forever and ever
Your mercy endures

God of gods and Lord of lords
Your mercy endures, Your mercy endures
God of gods and Lord of lords
Your mercy endures, Your mercy endures

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good,
He is good, good
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good,
He is good, good, good

Your mercy endures forever and ever
Your mercy endures — Oh
Your mercy endures forever and ever
Your mercy endures

God of gods and Lord of lords
Your mercy endures, Your mercy endures
God of gods and Lord of lords
Your mercy endures, Your mercy endures
God of gods and Lord of lords
Your mercy endures, Your mercy endures
God of gods and Lord of lords
Your mercy endures, Your mercy endures
Your mercy endures, Your mercy endures
Your mercy endures, Your mercy endures

“Great is Thy Faithfulness”
Great is thy faithfulness, oh God my Father
There is no shadow of turning with Thee
Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not
As Thou has been, Thou forever will be

Great is Thy faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love
(Chorus)

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside
(Chorus)
